INFORMATION ON

Absences

If your child is absent through sickness or any unavoidable cause you must notify the academy for each day of absence first thing in the morning, either by phone, (01270) 902054 or via email. If you need to discuss your child’s absence or have any concerns about their attendance, please contact school and speak to Mrs Smith or Mrs North.

The Principal has discretionary power to grant leave of absence for a family holiday or visit overseas, but this is granted for exceptional circumstances only. Permission must be sought in advance of the trip or planned absence. Please ask the school office for the absence request form.

The school is required by law to collect and report details of absence. Cheshire East Council is reviewing it’s practice with regards to the issuing of Penalty Notices for term time holiday absences as a matter of priority and is seeking urgent guidance from the DfE.

INFORMATION ON

Lateness

It is very important that your child arrives in school on time. However, we recognise that from time to time children are late for school for a variety of reasons. If you are unable to arrive on time and are likely to be considerably late for school then please ring the school. If you arrive late (after 8.55 am) then your child will need to be registered in the school office and not in the classroom. Please come to the school office before dropping your child at their classroom.

Good routines play an important role in helping children form healthy habits for life. Being punctual is very important and helps the day to get off to a good start.

GUIDELINES ON

School Attendance

At Cranberry Academy, we seek to encourage good attendance by providing a warm welcoming and stimulating environment, where we hope children will feel safe and happy. This policy aims to outline procedures regarding a child’s absence from school. Any problems concerned with absences will be handled in an appropriate and professional manner, according to the guidance set out by the Local Education Authority. Education is important. Missing school means missing out. Children should be at school, on time and ready to learn, every day the school is open, unless the reason for the absence is unavoidable. Permitting absence from school without a good reason is an offence by the parent that can result in legal action by the Local Authority.
